Macmillan Mighty Hike 2023

Macmillan Mighty Hike 2023

Every year we like to set ourselves a new challenge for the year ahead, and 2023 is no different! Come the 2nd of September, 4 members of staff from Purdie Worldwide we embark on a Macmillan Mighty Hike! A full marathon distance through some of the roughest and most stunning scenery Scotland has to offer!

The Challenge

At Purdie Worldwide we’re keen to do whatever it takes to help people living with Cancer. This year we’re focusing our efforts on completing the Rob Roy Mighty Hike. Over 26 miles of hilly terrain, that must be walked not run, in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. To date we’ve raised almost £5,000 for Macmillan. Help us smash the £5k barrier and donate using the links below!

Although we’re walking the route and not running, this is going to be a huge challenge. Last September we managed walk 11k steps every day. For this challenge we’ll need to do over 50k steps in a single day (we reckon 100k steps for Peter). So you can bet the team will be out and about over the summer getting some training miles in! If you do see them out and about, be sure to show them some support and encouragement!

The Route

The route itself is exactly marathon distance, meaning we have to cover 26.2 miles or 42.2km in less than 10 hours. Starting just outside of Callander, Stirlingshire, the route begins and finishes at Claish Farm. Although we have no time to aim for, we want to try and get somewhere around the 8-9 hour mark. We have no idea if this is achievable or not, and we’ll have to find out on the day if this will be possible!

Travelling counter-clockwise, the route follows the northern shore of Loch Venacher, before heading South round Loch Drunkie and onto Aberfoyle. From there the last leg of the journey takes you back up towards Callander, taking in the wonderful views from Ben Gullipen as we pass by on our way to the finish line back at Claish Farm.

The Team

Although we opened this challenge up to every member of staff here at Purdie Worldwide, only the Managing Director, General Manager, Marketing Manager and Peter from Purdie Property Maintenance put their names forward. Unfortunately these 5 gentlemen are probably the 5 most unfit employees across the whole company! There’s going to be a lot of training required, that’s for sure!

Neil Purdie

Our fearless director will be leading the challenge from the front! However, he has claimed there'll be a cart of beer being towed behind him on the day as he aims to sink a pint per mile!

Peter Sneddon

From our sister company Purdie Property Maintenance comes a man who is no stranger to hard work. However we are concerned that his leg length will hinder him against taller opposition.

Robert Cooper

Managing Director here at Purdie Worldwide. Currently getting in 10k steps before breakfast every morning on his daily dog walk!

Mark Scoular

The man behind everything digital here at Purdie Worldwide. He's got a point to prove against his wife who doesn't think he can manage it!

Keith Crookston

Our Chief Mechanic Keith will also be joining us on this adventure. Fitted with a new pair of walking shoes he's ready and raring to go!
