One Month until Moving Day...

   Inform schools of moving date

  Contact your electricity, gas and broadband suppliers to let them know you’re moving

  Arrange mail re-direction at the Post Office

Two Weeks until Moving Day...

   Organise a pet or child sitter for the day of the move

  Inform your GP surgery that you’re moving

  Don’t buy any new frozen goods, and try run your freezer down

  Begin by packing non-essentials. For example, start outside, or on the top floor.

  Separate any high value items to be transported individually

  Update your driving licence with the DVLA

  Notify your bank and the inland revenue of your change of address

  Let your insurers (car and house) know of your change of address from your move date

  Inform the local council of change of address and cancel direct debit

One Week till Moving Day...

   Confirm with solicitors and estate agents that the move is going ahead

  Start to pack clothes, but leave enough for a week’s worth.

  Speak with your neighbours and plan to have the driveway and surrounding areas clear for access

  As you do the final packing, clean the house as you go, room by room.

  Empty, or start to defrost your freezer

  Pack up all your cupboards

  Disconnect the dishwasher and washing machine

  Ensure all boxes have been labelled with the contents, and room they’ve to be moved to

The Day Before Moving Day...

   Charge your mobile and any other portable devices!

  Make an “Essentials” box with everything you need for one night, e.g. toothbrush, clothes etc

  Make sure everything is packed up and in a clearly labelled box

  Defrost and empty the freezer of any food.

  Make sure everything is easily accessible and all boxes are in plain view

  Ensure that anything you’re not taking is clearly marked

Moving Day!

   Get up early and make sure the access is ok for the removal truck

  Strip the beds and put sheets in a linen box.

  Allow time for cleaning. Keep cloths and hoover close by for that final clean.

  Drop keys off at exchange agent or pass to new owners

  Record all metre readings for water, electricity and gas. Take photos if possible!

  Do a final walk round before leaving

  Give the removal team a tour of the new property so they know which rooms to put all boxes in.

After Your Move...

   Take fresh meter readings of your gas and electricity in your new home.

  Start to un-pack, room by room, but we suggest starting with the kitchen first so you can cook!

  Update your address with the council, electoral register and your energy suppliers

  Change the locks!

  Update the microchips on any pets

  Pay the Stamp Duty if required

  Provide feedback on your mover.
